Hi,

I bought Artemis quite some time ago on Google Playstore. I was using my mobile phone to enhance my Artemis experience. Just today (when I wanted to install it on my Android tablet) I realised that Artemis seems no longer to be available on Google Playstore

Does anybody know if the Android version will be available again? And roughly when is the Android update (to version 2.7.x) expected?

I could not find any information about the Artemis application being removed from Google Playstore.

Thanks!

If I'm reading the posts correctly, Thom appears to be removing Artemis from the Apple and Google Stores in anticipation of developing a new version of Artemis (3.0) using a new engine. I'm guessing he has decided to stop supporting Artemis on tablets until the new version comes out. Unfortunately, I can't give you any kind of a timeline for when that will be. Likely it will be released on PC before the tablet versions.

The good news is, it would be consistent for the new version to come out in December or the beginning of next year. And it's possible that he may be using a multi-platform development environment, which would speed up the Android version release.

I'll also note he is releasing software for the Android using his new engine. So it's certainly compatible.

Thanks for the quick response.

That means there is no way to install Artemis on a new Android device at the moment. :-(

Unfortunately, no. I would suggest installing from apk, but there's probably relatively few people who would have the apk instead of installing it directly from Google Play.

Did it disappear from the Apple store as well?

On iOS it still seems to be available for download:

Looks like version 2.4 is still available from the Amazon App Store for Android devices. $2.99 American.

Thanks. I can confirm this (2.29 € on Amazon.de). However not knowing if the app will also be removed from Amazon App Store, I am very hesitant to buy it again.

I would very much appreciate a brief comment by the developer about the plans for the Android version of the game.

YES, DEVS if you are watching this thread WE WOULD PAY FOR THIS APP AGAIN. We all understand how hard it is to keep different versions in sync. It basically takes all the work over again to get the other platform up to speed. BUT the mobile version took this game from great to stellar!

On a side note, I seem to remember seeing the .apk for 2.4.0 somewhere, and that version of the game is on the website. It may be worth hacking your Android devices a bit to get them on, and roll your games back to 2.4. Arguably, shuttles and probes aren't quite as great as access to the app . . .

Thom's new game engine is supposed to make porting to iOS and Android mobile devices easier. That said, IMO rampant piracy has made Android pretty unappealing for game devs. I can't speak for Thom's opinion, especially looking a year in the future when he will release Artemis 3.0. Maybe Android will be an attractive platform at that time, or maybe he will do it no matter how attractive or unattractive Android seems.

If you want to know Thom's feelings about it at any given moment send him an email. He is hard at work coding his new engine and he is almost always in the mood to talk about game development.
