Artemis Mod Loader is a tool to assist with applying Mods to Artemis SBS.  It is also useful in building Mods of your own, and includes a number of other tools and functionality to give you the freedom for all sorts of enhancements to Artemis SBS.

I originally built this tool for less-than-hacker-technical users to ease the implementation of Mods into Artemis, and expanded it for developing Mods and tweaking the various aspects of Artemis.  It currently even has a basic mission editor, called the Mission Studio, which will see further enhancements to include a graphical interface in the future.

In conjunction with the release of Artemis SBS v. 2.0, I have some updates to Artemis Mod Loader that specifically add the new functionality found in vesselData.xml.

Link to Artemis Mod Loader is here.

The big question is, does it work with the new 2.0 release?

Oh yeah, it should work fine--I haven't actually had a chance to test it with v. 2.0--gonna install that tonight--but there's no reason Artemis Mod Loader wouldn't work with v. 2.0.  I've added all the known new features of the vesselData file (added in updates 3.0.17 through 3.0.19, listed above), so the vesselData file that Artemis Mod Loader works with is the one for version 2.0, and I've tested the version 2.0 vesselData file against the 1.7 version of Artemis, and it seemed to work fine--though I did experience a crash in Artemis after awhile--not sure if I just hit a bug in Artemis, or if there was something in the new vesselData file it didn't like.

The Mods are going to be a different issue.  Maybe they'll work out-of-the-box, and maybe they won't.  I'm going to try and get a little testing with that tonight.

The Mission Editor part though is a whole other story as well--I haven't yet seen an updated reference to the mission script language, so I have no idea what the changes are.  My guess, based on Mike's information that Thom was going to try and make Artemis v. 2.0 backward compatible with the old v. 1.7 missions, that there are mainly only new stuff to worry with, and the Mission Editor will still work, it just won't have any of the new features.

How's the mod loader update for 2.0 coming along?  I've had to totally delete and  re-install the loader and hide the Artemis 2.0 install from it so I can at least use it on 1.702 again.

It should work for version 2.0 already--there are just a few features when developing Mods that still need work.  You shouldn't need to hide Artemis 2.0 from it--it'll simply make the old Artemis 1.702 a separate Mod that can be applied overtop 2.0, so that you can revert to 1.702 at will.  For applying Mods--it'll work fine, but only when you develop your Mod, there will be issues with the artemis.ini file that I still need to fix, which I'll probably get fixed by this weekend.

BTW--Most of the mods are currently being updated to work for version 2.0, but should still work for 1.702 after they are updated.  TreChipman's TMP Mod is complete, here.  Mark Bell has identified what needs changed, so all the other Mods are not far behind.  If you have the Mod already installed in Artemis Mod Loader, to update it you'll need to completely uninstall the Mod, download the Mod separately from the Artemis Mod Loader and then reinstall from PC.  I am making sure to update web links as needed--the TMP Mod should already have a good web link.

I'm having a few Windows 8 compatibility problems with the Mod Loader.  First, I can connect without the mod loader running just fine, however, through it, I can't connect at all to the server.  I can however, with my other devices.  Has anyone else had this problem?

The Mod Loader should have absolutely no affect on this--the problem is probably the Windows Firewall.  Since the Mod Loader is running Artemis from a different location than originally installed, it may be blocking it.  You should be able to clear it up by adding an exception into the Firewall.

It's a new computer and I'm still trying to figure out what all they've pre-installed in the way of security software.  Most of it may be redundant.  I guess I'm just going to have to sort all of it out before I get any good online games running like they are supposed to be.  lol

--Update--

Took Norton Security off and changed it out to Avast and now it is much easier to fix the security and let Artemis mod loader and the artemis copy have free passage. All works now.

Artemis 2.0 is working with your mod loader (thanks!), but I downloaded and activated the TNG mod, and while I get the TNG music, when I click start server I get an error:
Assertion failed!

Program: ...
File: ..\helper\FatString.cpp
Line: 133

Expression: lpsz != NULL

If I deactivate the mod I can get it to work again. I'm posting on the TNG mod page, but thought I'd post here too in case you have ideas. I didn't do anything with the aml file provided by the TNG mod since it said that it shouldn't be necessary after version 3.0.16 of the mod loader and I'm on 3.0.20.39147

Try re-installing TNG from the links on the TNG mod page.  You'll need to first download, then install from PC.  The link in the Mod Loader points to an old copy of TNG--I'll be getting that updated soon.  That should fix the problem.  You will need to uninstall TNG first from the Mod Loader.

Well the mod loader takes the .aml file I made and loads it ok, but gives an error when trying to download the file. When i point it to a local file, it installs the files ok. When I try to activate it, it blows up. Thoughts?

I'll try to dig into it tonight.  As a guess, I'd say the mapping in the .aml file is not matching the mapping in the .rar file.  Installing simply extracts all files in the .rar into a unique folder.  Activating follows the instructions in the .aml file.
