Artemis Galaxy is a custom mod designed to be Game Mastered in a multi-bridge (2 - 4 bridges) Artemis event.  The mod includes a complete overhaul of the game music, as well as a full storyline with detailed Game Master instructions.  Players will battle TIE fighters and an Imperial Star Destroyer, and with a little help from R2-D2, one team will pilot the Millennium Falcon into the final battle, and help save a galaxy far, far away.

Story Summary
While traveling through space, the players are suddenly and inexplicably dropped out of hyperspace into an unknown universe.  With each ship severely damaged and unable to move, the crew is surrounded by many other damaged and disabled ships – apparently in the same situation.  After contact is made with the local command headquarters, the crew learns that an invading force of extreme power is decimating this unknown galaxy on the far reaches of the unexplored universe.  With every other ship out of service, the players are the only ones to have survived the catastrophe possessing ships powerful enough to help.  The players truly are their only hope.

Thanks for the share.

My setup is one bridge (7 total players).  I can add a Game Master station to the mix.

Q1: I realize you specifically designed this for multiple bridges.  Any chance in this working with one bridge, one crew?

Q2: You mentioned (in another post) that you had a set of evangelistic discussion questions.  Mind to share those?

Question 2 is already answered.  In the download you included a very detailed or well organized overview, event overview, story plot, discussion questions and a lot more.  Super! [smile]

Q3:  Any pictures or videos of this event?  I must've been massive fun!

Thanks!

Yes and no.  The overall design is to have 2 bridges competing to find a hidden Sith Artifact.  It might be fun with only one bridge, but the competition between the 2 (or more) bridges is a big part of the event.

The event itself tries to play off of the light vs dark side idea.  For part of the event, you're trying to get them to work together and help rescue life pods.  By the end (the dark side) they are in an all-out ship against ship cut-throat competition.

Many of the evangelism discussion questions center around discussing the idea between light side and dark side.  Some good discussion could happen around, "Do you think we are born as light side, dark side, or neutral?"  The discussion questions eventually center around whether Jesus is our only hope -- as a play off of the title and overall mission.

So short answer: you could probably do 1 bridge, have them assemble the GPS coordinates, and find the Sith Artifact.  But it would be a very different event.  Also the race to the final planet would not be as exciting with only 1 crew.

Sadly, no.  The event itself turned out fantastic!  In retrospect, I wish we had taken some pics, videos, etc.

Next time...

Lemme know if you end up using it.  If folks are getting use out of it, I'd be willing to maintain the script as folks provide feedback and such.

Q1:  Thanks for the explanation.  Based on what you said, I think it would be best to have two ships, knowing the other ship is trying to beat you sounds like a serious amount of competitive fun.

I have an Artemis party coming up soon and so I don't have time to use your mod *yet*.  It looks impressive and I want to make sure to pull it off correctly.

Q3:  Bummer! [smile]  If you have a spare USB port, I recommend using a webcam combined with OBS Studio (for awesome PIP).

Once I have a chance to give the mod a run through, I'll be in touch.

Our youth pastor is a major Star Wars fan. I just introduced him to Artemis this past year, and he wants to use it for a team building exercise next spring.

I think you just made my day with this mod! Can't wait to give it a try!

@RogerW37:
I was thinking with 7, you could do a minimal crew of 3 and 4.  You can merge science and coms, and drop engineering.  I think as long as you have 2 distinct bridges it should work out.  I'll definitely give OBS Studio a look.

@notsabbat:
I notice on your signature that you're in Dayton.  I'm in Columbus.  If you want help running the event, let me know -- especially if you're doing it for your church or whatever.  I could travel to Dayton and help out however I can.

Looking forward to hearing the feedback from folks and seeing how guys you end up tailoring the mod for yourselves.

Quick questions...

  • Did you have 2+ crews separated so they could only speak to each other via Comms?
  • How did crew captains "play" their Force Cards? Hand them to the GM who could then trigger the events?
It seems like both crews should be in the same room, or at least very close by. Am I reading this right?

We ended up setting up a 'TeamSpeak' server.  We had 3 bridges in separate rooms (2 upstairs and 1 downstairs), and each COMMS person had a headset.  The Game Master also had a headset.  All of them shared a party line, but only the COMMS could communicate between ships.  And the captains had to rely on COMMS to communicate messages from the Game Master.

The Force Cards were handled by each team having a 'runner.'  Only one Force Card could be played at a time, and there had to be at least 1 minute between each Force Card.  That kept some of the teens from rushing up / down the stairs (safety).  In order to play the card, the crew had to send a representative (thereby leaving a station unmanned) to the Game Master.  Some of the teams had extra folks watching, so they recruited some of the spectators to be their runners though.

I think the two things that made the event unique were the Force Cards and the GPS hunt at the end.  The addition of the ability to affect each other's ships with the powers of the Force added a new dynamic different from the typical kind of playstyle for Artemis.  It also allowed novice players (who had never played Artemis) to stay in the game and not be overwhelmed by one crew that had quite a bit of experience.  Given that none of them knew the ultimate goal or even how to win the game going into it, it added a unique layer of strategy once the end goal was revealed.

BTW: here is a thread I posted on throughout the summer as a bit of a tutorial.  For those that want to adjust the mod for their own use, hopefully this might help.
