Here are some of the mission scripts we used at Artemis Armada IV: The One With the Whales.

Missions by Paul Rockwell:

Whale of a Good Time (12 minute Pirate Mission)

The Arena  (Player vs Player mission with "Capture the flag" motif)

Dawn Patrol 2.0 (Pirate mission to capture the most loot)


Missions by Mike Substelny:

Cruiser Tournament (A TSN Cruiser has 48 minutes to destroy as much enemy tonnage as possible)

Carrier Tournament (A TSN Carrier has 48 minutes to destroy as much enemy tonnage as possible. Recommended for full fighter squadron.)

Ximni Tournament (A Ximni Battleship has 48 minutes to destroy as much enemy tonnage as possible. Uses Jump Drive)


Game Mastered Modules by Mike Substelny

Armada IV (General purpose GMed module that lets the GM generate numerous sectors and several "situations" that act as self-contained mini missions. The first three can be used to train newbie crews. The fourth is for killing crews that get too full of themselves.
  1. Ambassador situation is a simple escort mission
  2. Pirate Situation is a complex escort mission
  3. Mad Scientist Situation has the players help with a dangerous experiment gone awry
  4. Inquisitor situation puts the players in an epic boss battle that they will probably lose
Battle of Beachwood (GMed mission for 1-3 ships on per server. Players defend Beachwood Station in one corner of the sector. At Armada IV we had four simultaneous servers with four Game Masters. Up to twelve crews could defend against attackers approaching the station on four different maps. If you have enough resources this mission can handle 100 players or more.

I used this script this past weekend at a Con. It was a four hour slot. It included a three hour RPG session (using Fate Accelerated rule set), then we spent the last hour on the computers.

They were doing well until I pulled out the Inquisitor. They had me respawn the ship 3 times before they finally admitted defeat.

I tried it again later this weekend on Sunday. It actually got really laggy and then crashed the server. Didn't get a chance to check the log to see what the reason might have been.

The Inquisitor is also built into The Battle of Beachwood and it was defeated several times at Armada. To beat the Inquisitor three player ships had to gang up on it at once.

There might be a bug in the script, or a case I had not considered.

The scripts can get laggy if there are two many AI units, especially fighters and monsters, all at the same time. But as we saw with the Armada script "Medusa's Maze," large amounts of any sort of terrain can bog down the game. Too many asteroids, mines, even nebula clouds can have that effect.

Thread bump because someone was looking for an implementation of electronic warfare/hacking, which is part of Paul's PvP mission "The Arena" above.

stupid question but which version(s) of Artemis are these for? I'm looking for ones for 2.4 we still use a number of iPad and Android devices between our 3-5 bridges.

I think all of those should be for version 2.7.1. (Except maybe the Arena is 2.6.204? I don't recall if we got that to work for 2.7.1). If they don't work for 2.7.1, then they'd be written for 2.6.204.

There were also three missions created for a script contest. Here's my entry, updated a bit. Works for version 2.7.1.

It's got... uh... a lot of asteroids.

I tried running Whale of a Good Time on 2.7.1, but the player ship didn't show up on the map, all of the coordinates were nonsensical (12 digit numbers) and it was full of lag.  Is there a trick to it, or is it a version thing?  I tried changing the ship type and name to match the script, but that didn't fix it.

There is something wrong with the Dawn Patrol 2.0 mission script. Some of the text appears to be garbled, so it's throwing random characters into the XML tags. Maybe the zip got corrupted?

Mike, Paul, do we have a clean version of Dawn Patrol 2.0 saved somewhere else?

The scripts "Whale of a Good Time" and "Dawn Patrol 2.0" are both Paul's so I think the copies I put up are the only ones I have. I will look into this tonight and if necessary I will ask Paul for clean copies.
