I just recently started playing Artemis and I am trying to track down the status of the bugs in 2.2.  Is it correct that the piranha spawning bug is fixed, but 2.2.1 is not yet released because of other bugs that aren't fixed yet?  Is there anything that can be done in the meantime to mitigate the piranha bug in 2.2.0?

No, it doesn't look like the bugfix will be released. Either Thom went in and completely redesigned monsters, which prevents them from being released without all of his other changes and fixes that need testing, or he feels that the other crash bugs he's fixing in the next release are just too important to leave out. The next full release, with all new features, is planned for April.

The best way to mitigate the piranha bug is simply to not have any monsters. If there are no piranhas, the game can't crash. I have found that the game is playable even if you have it set to create a few monsters. Piranhas are fairly rare, they only appear by themselves if Lethal Terrain is set, and if you only destroy the hulks created by destroyed enemies, and not the ones floating in the sector, I believe they won't spawn piranhas.

You can still "downgrade" to 2.1 by downloading the 2.0 to 2.1 patch and installing it over 2.2. That will overwrite the correct files and restore the game to version 2.1. This is the only way to connect PCs to tablets, as well.

I appreciate learning that the new version is coming out hopefully in April.  This is the first I've heard of that and it is good news.

I had gathered that piranhas could spawn from wrecks even if monsters was set to zero.  It's good to know that this is only for terrain wrecks and not the case for wrecks of enemies created during play.

If the only effect of the bug is to crash all the clients once, then I could even accept that as a special ECM ability of the monster and roll with it.  If however the clients crash repeatedly during combat then that is unacceptable.  I have not yet been able to make the bug happen on my bridge, but I'm fairly new to Artemis.  Causing the bug to occur is one of my goals for our session this evening.

Thom is reconsidering the decision to hold back the release. I can't promise anything, but stay tuned for updates.

I'm confused, are there more bugs than just the piranhas?  We've not crashed yet in several games, and we've also not had a wreck on the initial map yet either.

I understand Thom also found a problem with multibridge play. It wouldn't show up in a standard game, but could cause problems for a lot of online players.

Yes with the 5 or so ships that the TSN Uses the 2.2.x (I cant actually remember the current release of the game) Crashes normally about two thirds of the way though an encounter (Solo/Co-op etc) Its something to do with wreck/monster generation on destroying a wreck.) as such both the TSN Group and the USN Group have been having people roll back clients to 2.1.1 so we can enjoy the game.

2.3.0 is released!  This version includes the bug fix for the crash we've been talking about.
