If you go to the downloads page of the Artemis website, you'll find DL links to Artemis 2.1.5 upgrade, and the first release of the Artemis War Server.

Here's how you use it.

1) set up your bridge computers like normal.  Nothing changes about how you use the server, or any of the bridge consoles.

2) on a separate computer, execute the War Server program.  Choose the settings for the war you want, then start the war.

3)  The War Server will display its own IP address in the upper-right of its window.  Its network port is 3000 (remember the Artemis server port is usually 2010).

4)  Set up your bridge server to join the war.  The new screen it shows will let you type in the War Server's IP, and connect.  Once connected, your bridge server will show the galactic war map.

5) On your helm console, choose your ship type, and the name of your ship.

6) On your bridge server, click to select the sector you want to defend.  It can only be a sector with enemies, and must have a border with an un-occupied sector.   Then Click the "Enter Sector" button, and you will begin a game.  Kill all the invaders before the war turn is over.

The War Server runs in turns.  Once a turn is up, new enemies are added to the map, and advance through the galaxy.  When a crew is fighting in a sector, every enemy kill is reported back to the war server.  However, if the crew doesn't CLEAR the sector before the turn is up, they don't technically achieve a "win".

I encourage you to run the war server, and set up a few games, and use SPACE to advance through the turns, to see how the enemies behave and the game progresses.  Once you have crews actually trying to participate in a war, they won't want you to stop the server or press SPACE.

Is it possible to have the sector map displayed to the captain's map?

That way the CO could select a sector without having to access the bridgeserver/mainscreen between every turn.

Is the only part of the update the war server, or did other changes come about with it?

*Edit*  Haven't gotten it to work yet.  It seems that when I click Join War Server from the main server screen (It has the solo, pvp, coop, scripted games) the grid automatically comes up before I even connect to the war server hosted on a separate computer.  I type in the proper IP and click connect to war server, it seems to work, but it doesn't allow me to enter any sectors

Same here Sky Captain. Also is there a change list we can look at to see what's new and improved?

Time to complete depends upon War Server settings. You set "Turn" time limit and "Break" time limit and how many turns you have. SO if a turn is 15 min and 5 turns and 10 minute break between turns it'll be about 2 hrs.

From what I understand, the sector map is displayed only when you are starting the game, on the server. So it would be useless for it to be displayed on the captain's map. At this time, you cannot move from sector to sector while inside a "game".

However, in the future I would like the ability to traverse from one sector to another without having to end the game, go back to the server select screen, and select a new sector. In short, the clients would be connected to the server permanently, and the server would merely transfer the ship from sector to sector, restarting the "game" accordingly.

Among other things, this would allow you to make a "blockade run" where you charge through an enemy controlled sector to get to a sector beyond. You can't do this right now, but it might be a strategy for a desperation move, or for scouts gathering intel on the enemy.

I'd also like to see empty sectors used for something. Maybe the player ships start on the map's edge and have to make their way to the target sector, or empty sectors can be used for resupply or replacement of a destroyed ship.

You can travel from sector to sector (at least in the beta you could)

ONLY IF the number of enemies defeated meets or exceeds the original number of enemies in that sector.

HERE IS THE CATCH!!!!!!
If you enter a sector already occupied by another friendly ship you WILL NOT be flying on the same map (ie you will not see each other) BUT THE TOTAL KILLs to win the sector DO COUNT.

You can travel from sector to sector by flying to the border of one sector and "rolling over" to the border of the next? Because it was my understanding that you couldn't.

If by "you can travel from sector to sector" you mean you can defeat the enemies in one sector, go back to the sector map, and enter another sector, then I knew that. That's not really what I'm talking about. When you defeat the enemies in the first sector, the clients all shut down (I assume) and thus you can't control what sector you go to from a client. You're just connecting the server to the next sector.

No, you can't "Roll over", When you kill all the enemies in the sector, you immediately jump back to sector grid map, you then can choose to enter another adjacent sector. If you enter another sector with another "Artemis" crew, you will not be able to see each other, but your kills and their kills both tally up for enemy kills in sector.

Yeah, but the suggestion made was that you should be able to select the sector to go to next from the Captain's Map. I pointed out that when you clear the sector, the server "ends the game", and jumps back to the sector grid map. All of the consoles are logged out to the Ready To Play screen. That means it is impossible for any console to interact with the sector grid map.

I do think the idea is a good one, but it'll probably be a while before it can be implemented. In addition to being able to move from sector to sector, though, you would be able to carry the ship's state (damage, energy, torpedo stores) from one sector to another. Right now, the ship is initialized to full strength every time it enters a new sector.
