The Bring-Your-Own-Bridge passes for Artemis Armada V are going fast! We have space in the ballroom for 15 bridges, and as of this morning 10 of those spaces are taken!

ABSOLUTELY NO BRIDGES WILL BE ALLOWED IN WITHOUT A BRING-YOUR-OWN-BRIDGE RESERVATION.

Some Details (as I understand them):
  • The Bring-Your-Own-Bridge passes are absolutely free. Click here to get yours.
  • The space limit for each bridge is nominally 11'x11' though there may be a little wiggle room (e.g. some are adjacent to one other bridge, others adjacent to two).
  • The power limit for each bridge is nominally 8 amps.
  • The ballroom is open. No bridge may be surrounded by walls.
  • In the past, the Armada staff set up 2-3 bridges for public play. This year, if all possible bridge spaces in the ballroom are taken, then Armada V cannot supply any additional bridges. In this case you will be expected to allow Armada members to play on yours.
  • If you have questions or concerns about your bridge, contact Armada Director Corey directly: armada.director@gmail.com

Corey, if I got anything wrong please correct me.

I look forward to seeing you and your bridges in March!

Mike - I tell cons I need 3 tables, 6 chairs, and an outlet.  From above I presume we'll have an outlet to draw that 8 Amps thru.  Tables?  Chairs??  Some, looks longingly on the Gungnir, will not need chairs.  And, as I recall, Armada will provide a switch, bridge needs to have supporting LAN cabling from switch to computers.

As I told Clavestone and GypsyJuggler, in the VERY worst case, if we cannot "press gang" a crew, we each can take a laptop and joystick and rent ourselves out as {cheap} pilots.  #WeAreMercenaries! #WeWorkForFree #YouGerWhatYouPayFor!

This requirement suits me just fine. Normandy will only have two of its regular crew at Armada this year, which means the other 4 will need to be pick-up crew. This hasn't been a problem in the past -- usually we've been able to recruit people to play. Plus we get to meet a lot of people. "Officer Exchange Program" is one of the highlights of Armada for me.

So, I have no idea how to estimate this beyond just counting wattage on my computer power supplies; however I know that most of my power supplies are around 400watts give or take. Those are not particularly high power PSUs, but they are still desktop PSUs.

Given Ohms Law calculations 400 watts / (line voltage @ 120 volts) = 3.33 amps

Ie. my average PSU will use a max of 3.33amps per PC...and another .5amp per Monitor if random internet sources are to be trusted. So with no extra monitors or including fighters (6PCs and 6 screens) my bridge can use up to around 23Amps for very not strong PCs. Does this 8Amp head limit mean, effectively, that there cant be desktop PCs at Armada V?

We'll need to address power hungry bridges on a case by case basis.  I'm hopeful that most bridges will fit in or under that limit, but for specific cases (like Gungnir) we'll have to see what we can manage.

Basically, each power circuit at the hotel can only support 20 amps before tripping a breaker.  We only have a limited number of circuits available to us.  We need to share circuits between the bridges to manage our power usage.

If there's a low power bridge on the same circuit as a high power bridge, then it's probably ok that one goes over and one goes under.  A high draw of 23 amps is to the point where you might be tripping a breaker on your own.

When the bridge is set up at your central location, are all of the stations plugged into a single power strip?  or are they spread around?  How did you manage your power connections at previous armadas?  There might be a cheap current monitor that would give you a more accurate answer than max power draw, especially since you probably aren't running most of your pc's at full power the whole time.

There have been no significant changes to my bridge as far as power consuption since.....basically Armada 2. All the PCs (including fighters) are ultimately connected to the same outlet. Never had a trip unless someone forgot they had a space heater hooked up to one of the outlets on the bridge.

The PSUs in my bridge are generally cinsidered vow wattage.

Then it sounds like it'll probably be fine.  We'll try to make sure to pair your bridge up with a low power bridge, or a split power bridge, just to get some extra margin.

The last I heard there were still a few bring-your-own bridge passes left, but not many. If you want space in the ballroom you should reserve it now.
