I love this game, and so does my family. But I've never liked the star field view - it's way too colorful, the planets aren't really there, etc. I just want a plain old black, spacey star field.  Does anyone know how I would do that?

Thank you, in advance!

Swap the skybox files in the game. Somewhere on the forums, I think there is a post about skyboxes that someone created a while back.

You need to swap them on all machines running the game.

I have a 10x10px black JEG, which I copy over the top of all the art/sb*/*.jpg
Can replace dat/aster2.png with a 10x10px black PNG if you wish too.

On Linux / Nebula server, the script is:
for X in art/sb*/*.jpg; do cp -v empty.jpg $X; done
cp -v empty.png dat/aster2.png

Note that you'll need to do this on every client / mainscreen that you want to blacken. In my case, I do it on my Nebula "Artemis in the cloud" servers to improve performance of the VNC-based remote control, and none of the other clients even need to know/care that I did it, they can remain as pretty as they want.  [biggrin]
