For about two years now we play Artemis and I started using dmx and tons of leds to increase immersion - thanks to this forum a cheap arduino based solution came up. More and more inspired by your bride builds and ideas I decided to start my own bridge build project. After a year of prototyping and reading through a lot of the postings here I am finally close to finish my bridge and would like to share the current progress with you.
All stations are based on IKEA lack tables, using about nearly 100 arcade buttons and for each station an arduino as a keyboard simulation. Each station is equipped with an "old" touch screen (ebay) and a mini pc (ebay). Some leds for back light and a plexiglass cover that has a printed transparent foil attached to the back. I did some more shots during the build and will probably "document" my project a bit more in detail once I am finished but wanted to share some first impressions and see what feedback you would have.

Thanks - I'll be posting more pictures once they are done. Need to get them done by this weekend for our convention. Still so much to do ...

I like the black-and-yellow caution lines around the edges. [smile]

Thanks for all the positive feedback - the design was heavily inspired by Angel of Rusts console layouts. And yes the caution lines add nicely to it :-). When I am back from the Con I'll share the illustrator design files as well as the code for the arduinos. Hopefully the consoles work as planned :-). We will probably beta fly Tuesday for the first time :-) - if all gets done until then ...

Note to myself - next time I will get thicker wires. To avoid soldering I came up with the great idea to use insulated screw joints. Worked fine until I made final testing and did a full check to see if all has contact. That's when I found out I used to much force to screw the wires tight - half of them got cut through by the screw since they are to thin. So either thicker wire, less force or best a combination of both :-).

Finally the first test run. Except the expected tweaking for making the mouse hit the right keys and 3 buttons not working as expected we are quite happy for a first full test. Only bummer was that all Shif+key kombinations dident seem to work. Anyone having some experience here. We tried to let the arduino "press" the "shift" + "key" e.g. Power to torpedo or store engineering settings when you hit a button on the console. More work for tomorrow, missing still some backlights and need to fix the bugs. God I so love Artemis :-).

Thanks!
Does anybody have some experience with using an Arduino (or similar) to emulate the keyboard?
Somehow Artemis is reading multiple key strokes differently than e.g. The notepad does. All the "Shift +" key pairs soon not to work with the arduino but work with a regular keyboard.

The new bridge in action together with the dmx lights. Kids have a blast with it - looking forward to another 3'days of playing Artemis :-)
