Because it is still crashing I really could not say. This may be the buggiest Artemis ever and the bugs are really hard to track down. We played with a full crew last week using Thom's dev machine as a server, with all his debugging tools running, and he could not figure out any of these bugs. Sometimes that is just life in the software business.

How close are we to a release of 2.7.2?

Is there any chance Artemis 2.7.2 will ever be released?

I do think we will eventually see a release of 2.7.X at some point, probably (hopefully?) before Armada V (March 27-29, 2020), but I couldn't say when. (The Armada Planning Committee is campaigning for certain changes to the code that we think we'll need for Armada, but that doesn't address what's been making 2.7.2 crash on the non-scripted missions.) My guess is Thom might be thinking, "Do I work on this decades-old code that makes me cringe, or do I work on Artemis 3.0 where I can avoid all the mistakes I made with the first version?"

If you really want to see a new version of 2.7.X, then we can help Thom out by trying to narrow down what's crashing 2.7.2. If we can give him a clearer idea of what's going wrong, he might be more inclined to get in there and fix it.

Once we've got a mostly-bug-free version of 2.7.X, then Thom can devote more of his time to 3.0.

He could start with the tags hit asteroids = crash bug. That's pretty big, IMHO.

I brought that up with Thom directly on Sept. 5th. He wrote it down in his notebook, so I expect he'll be working on that next time he gets into the code.

What is the most stable version currently?  WE are running 2.7.14, I believe... and getting a banner that our version is over a year old.

I am looking forward to seeing 2.7.2

There have been instabilities in every version since Artemis Armada IV in April 2018. I don't remember that version number but it's probably noted here in the forums.

I can’t imagine how much of a pain in the ass 1 man regression testing is. Even with help from friends.

at the Potluck party this past weekend, the kitchen bridge tested 2.7.3, and the living room was testing 2.7.4....

not sure if either of these will be released, but 2.7.3 seemed to do OK. no crash while I was there. I heard living room crashed once or twice, but not sure if due to 2.7.4 or due to mission script.

Where do I find the 2.7.3 link?

I don't believe Thom posted a link to 2.7.3. The most recent version posted was 2.7.25, in this post:

https://artemis.forumchitchat.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1308265721&postcount=5&forum=309504

2.7.3 was given out at Critical Hit and at one of Mike's Artemis parties for playtesting. It's identical to 2.7.25 except it has a "debugging window" that was supposed to help us track down bugs. Unfortunately, when we tried to playtest it with the debugging window active, it would either crash the program, or it would run so slow that it was impossible to play. Due to all of the problems we had with the debugging window, I think Thom decided not to post it.

Since then we haven't had much success tracking down the bug that's been crashing 2.7.2. We know it tends to crash on higher difficulty settings (above difficulty 3), usually after about 30 minutes of play (possibly when the second wave of enemies shows up). I think it probably has something to do with the Skaaren special abilities... I've seen at least one crash that appeared to be caused by a Skaaren attacking/being attacked by a biomech.

There is also a 2.7.4 version that some of us have gotten directly from Thom, but it appears to be virtually identical to 2.7.3. There's no notes in the changes.txt about any new changes.
