And confirmed.

My big selling point this year at next week's convention: The Arena, a script which includes among its cooler features the ability to hit opponent ships with a tag and hack them.

Now... miss with a Tag and you'll kill the server for everyone.

I need to edit the script to remove asteroids. I sure hope there aren't any more undocumented features with tags...

I ran into an issue yesterday night where Comms kept ordering friendly ships to go somewhere and they said they would...and then never did. Neither "turn to 0/90/180/270 degrees" or "turn 10/25 degrees to port/starboard" worked. We tried a restart of just the software on both Comms and the server, and when that didn't work we rebooted all 6 machines but that didn't fix it either. Anybody else encounter this problem?

Would you share this mission once the convention is over? I'd be very interested to play this mission.

I think he's using Paul Rockwell's "Arena" mission script. You can download that from this post:

Xavier Wise also posted a mission called "TSN Arena", but I haven't tried that one yet:

I'm also quite fond of Admiral Legasse's "Conquest PVP2" mission:

Was this in a regular mission or a scripted mission?

A "feature" of Artemis for the past few years is that friendly AI ships don't get the Follow_Comms_Orders brain stack element, so the script needs to build it for every ship as it spawns.

It was the Single Front scenario as well as the Double Front scenario. We did not play any scripted missions.

Usually in a procedurally generated mission there will be some AI friendlies that won't obey Comms orders. This is intentional. Comms should hail them to find out what's going on. This generally results in a mini mission for your crew.

Yes, there are those AI friendlies that will reply to any order with "we do not accept your commands, have a nice day" or something of the sort. This is not it. When we tested our hunch, we clicked through three of these AI friendlies before we found someone who said something like "yes, new course set" but then kept flying in the same direction. In fact, ALL the AI friendlies we gave orders to and who said they accepted them did not change course.

In that case the answer to your original question is: "No, I have not encountered that problem."

If you get the chance you can have Science select an AI ship and then press the F7 key on the server until you see that ship's Brainstack. I suspect that somehow the Follow_Comms_Orders element is missing from their stacks. But I have no idea why it is happening to you.

What software version are you using?

I will look into that next chance I get. Is there a place where trouble shooting tips like this one are collectively listed?

I thought it was 2.7.2 but it turns out it was 2.7.1. So, I apologize for posting in the wrong thread.

There is no place for this AI problem because it has not been reported before. IMO asking on these forums is the best place to get advice from smart people. All of us are smart if I do say so myself.

No, that's okay. There is no reason to believe that the but was fixed between versions because it wasn't seen before.

Anyone know if Thom himself has been informed about the tag crash bug? This is a pretty major problem and should be at the top of his fix list, IMHO.
