jgreen has described The Forge quite well. A home user would not get much use out of The Forge.

The Forge is really only useful in a convention-like setting where you have a lot of bridges that must be started and stopped remotely according to a schedule, and it added the ability for players at the convention to spend real money to buy boosts.

Just wandering how much of that stuff can be done from the GM consol on a GM sandbox.

V5 has the following stuff and is quite easy.

Spawn waves of enemies, level 5 to 10.
Delete enemies.
Boost enemies.
Give elite powers.
Move enemies.

Give players energy.
Take player energy away.
Give nukes.
Give mines.
Give EMP.
Set player shields from 0 to 800.
Make mine immune.

Make sectors.
Go to premade sector.
PVP areas.

End server.

As well as all the other funkey special stuff you can make and do...

i have not seen the Forge used in anyway, but your GM Sandbox does just about everything I can think of right now.   That being said, I am doing another test run for a convention using your GM sandbox so I might have more ideas for an update...  which might be best to wait for until Artemis 2.2 comes out.

Wait... isn't this kind of what the War Server needs? A central control that starts a remote server for one of the ships in a sector, and then the other ships connect to it? Plus a ship can win an "upgrade" in a previous turn and keep it for the rest of the game. Sounds like a great fit.

Has the Forge been discontinued in favor of the War Server? Why wasn't it used at Armada? In all honesty, it could have been and I didn't notice, I only was present for the 20 bridge battle.

I mean a convention. I have this agonizing aversion to fallacy... Thus I tend to forget many people associate 'con' with 'scam'..  In the last year alone: Anime Crossroads, InConJunction, Starbase Indy, Awesome Con Indy, Who's Yer Con, Penguicon, 3 Rivers Gaming Con. There would have been Winter War in January but that got cancelled last minute.. This June I have Indy Pop Con and July I have InConJunction. Not to mention some of my gear was used to run one of the 4 Gen Con Bridges last year (no idea what's happening yet this year with regards to that). Plus usually run a bridge or two at the local gaming store monthly...last month was too busy..

oh no, I was talking to Longbowman who said he was doing another convention with the sandbox... Hence "con". I'm always worried somethign I made might go wrong with something I've made and then I'd feel guilty.

If you do have any more ideas to add in Longbowman, let me know.

About doing conventions; I'd be tempted to do it for kicks but really sure how you can make money doing it. But then I've never been to a real "convention". The annual Shenzhen Animation Convention is actually pretty lame, but then the cosplay is pretty good, if you like that kind of thing.

HAHAHAH!   make money at a con...  Nope.  Not yet.  At best i get my weekend pass free and maybe a hotel room for a night or two.  Other than that...  it's a cash and time drain...  but I love it.   (wouldn't you agree, Joe Greene?)

Yeah.. luckily I work in I.T. and make good enough money to be able to afford to hemorrhage and average of $300 a month into running Artemis at conventions...
