Hi there,

Just purchased Artemis and we intend to play our first mission in a friends stag do (drink will be involved) this weekend.

Our ship will be christened the USS Inebriated.

What missions would you suggest we start with to learn how to play and can have some fun along the way?

Thanks

I recommend setting about difficulty 4-5 but customize it so the enemy weapons are nerfed while player weapons and shields are strong. That way you will see a little variety to your enemies. Also be sure to set up some friendly ships to give Communications a little more fun.

I was going to say difficulty 5 is a bit tough for first time players, but actually your idea of reducing enemy weapon strength will make them beatable while still giving you lots to shoot at. And I definitely agree with adding friendly ships, especially if you have someone on Comms.

level 1 siege, no modifiers, so that everyone gets to know their console.

level 3 single front with terrain and allies, if you want a 20-30 minute play.

level 5 siege without allies if you want a long play... either way, you'll be compromised about the 30 minute mark, when all enemy ships close in on your stations.

level 5 single front, with terrain and allies, sensors at something other than 'unlimited' and enemy speed at 120% if you want a real challenge.
can't remember if setting a time limit would cause the enemy ships to respawn and create more incoming waves.

higher levels are just too dramatic, it almost takes the fun off.

RhinoNeil - How'd it go?  I'm hoping it was a "smashing" success!

And, to late now, but @ Armada the SnackBar (I think) had a comment about installing cup holder BELOW the level where electrons are flowing about.  Seems a wise idea.  {Please do not tempt Mr Murphy...}

Thanks for all your suggestions.

We had a real blast. The stag wasn't expecting anything and opened the door in the best man's house to find a crew all in Star Trek jerseys and a large chair with a gold Captain's jersey waiting for him.

We did many missions, most of which I couldn't give you the name of (something to do with some alcohol consumed) and many memorable moments - from the helmsman deciding to reverse into a combat situation and then proceeding to chase a cruiser around still in reverse to the Captain turning around to give his Comms officer the command to demand the enemy's surrender whilst the Weapons officer fired a spread of nukes into a fleet. He turned round and couldn't understand what was going on (mind you half the time he could remember his name).

We finished on Sunday afternoon with the USS Inebriated going down in a blaze of glory, surrounded by enemy vessels and the crew raising their glasses to toast the Captain.

Thanks guys,

Was a real blast and plans to have more goes are planned [smile]

We were talking about having a few ships running with full (or nearly full) crews in the future if I can get enough people/space etc.  Is there already the option of this over the web using teamspeak etc and ships being able to talk together when required?  Might be worth us trying to set up a few ships this way and run a test game sometime.

Anyway, his wedding is on the 2nd May (Star Trek themed) so was very fitting.

...still have loads of beer and munchies left over, so hopefully my top fits still after I 'disappear' it all [smile]
